How do I reserve parking for the moving truck?

Contact your local streets department and they will issue you a temporary no parking permit along with signage to display. You must put the signs out 24 hours in advance to give enough notice to keep the space clear. Our trucks are 20 plus feet in length, however; you should allow for 3 car lengths or 30 plus feet on the permit to allow enough space for the truck/trucks. Click here for Philly Streets Department.

I have an elevator move what should I do?

Its always best to schedule your move with your building manager. Many places have move out requirements such as reservations for the freight elevator as well as hours of operation.

What do I do when my furniture will not fit in the door?

In most cases, the movers will decide if hoisting is an option. If deemed to be safe conditions, we will hoist your furniture into the residence. Stellar Movers will remove modern self-cleaning windows, however; if you have old or antique windows you will have to remove them yourself or hire a contractor to remove them for you.

Should I label boxes?

You should label the top and 3 sides of the box with a sharpie of what location they belong. Some examples are Kitchen, Living Room or Master bedroom. Do not use color coded tap or post-its as they will fall off or get covered up by the moving blankets and wrap during the moving process.

Should I use trash bags for packing items?

No. Using trash bags is a bad idea for several reasons. You cannot pack items and ensure they will not break. And, bags are hard to label so it slows the move down when you have to open each one to tell the movers where to place them. The best thing to do is pack the item in a box. Make sure you use paper to wrap fragile items and fill up loose spaces.

Should I empty out dressers and file cabinets?

We require you empty all drawers, file cabinets and desk drawers. The best thing to do is pack the belongings up in a box to keep the safe.

Will the movers disassemble my furniture?

Our experienced team of movers will dissemble and reassemble your furniture. If you choose to do it yourself, make sure you have Ziplock bags for your loose parts.

Do you move appliances?

We will move appliances, however; they must be disconnected by you or a professional. Just let your moving representative know you have appliances.

What items am I not allowed to bring with me on my move?

Flammable compressed gases (i.e. propane tanks, fuel, paint), guns, ammunition and hazardous materials. If you have a questionable item that you are not sure of, please contact Stellar Movers and we will be happy to advise you.

Do I change my address?

The post office is a good place to start. An online Change of Address form is available on the United States Postal Service website. It’s also important to change your address with your banks, credit card companies, insurance providers and magazine subscriptions. Check out our complete checklist for more reminders.

Who should I inform that I am moving?

Notify family, friends and any professional organizations you are affiliated with on a regular basis. It’s also important to inform your family doctor, attorney, accountant, and school teachers/administrators (if applicable).
