You may think that once you’ve got all your things packed away for the big move that everything else would be a piece of cake. Too many people make the mistake of packing up in a hurried, disorganized manner that unpacking becomes even more challenging than moving across the country. Local movers in Philadelphia might be able to do all the heavy lifting but there are a few things you can do while you’re packing up your stuff to make settling in your new home easier later. By simply organizing your boxes, you will have one less thing to worry about.
One of the biggest fears in moving is forgetting some boxes at the old place back or losing them along the way. Granted that movers have a system in place to avoid this but it doesn’t hurt to make doubly sure. Ask your mover to give you a copy of the inventory to keep for yourself. For your own record, number the boxes that need to be moved. This way, you can get to check it all twice before moving and while unloading. This will also help if you need to stack the boxes in a specific order so nothing breaks or so you can load them up faster.
Get Labeling
Labeling your boxes will definitely save you a lot of time when it’s time to unpack. Box up items that go in a specific room and put the details on the label. Write what is in the box and where they should go when you get to your new place. Doing so, you don’t have to do a lot of bossing around since the movers will already know where to put the boxes. Just be careful not to put too much information on your labels. For instance, don’t write in detail what sorts of valuable and expensive items are in the box.
Add in Some Color
Another way to make unpacking a breeze is to color code your boxes. Combined with the labels, this is a very effective system to get behind. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, too. Some colored tape or stickers would do just fine. You just have to stick them where they would be easily seen. That way, your movers can tell where the boxes should be carried to even from afar.
